Rules

Ultimate Horseman Rules:

The Ultimate Horseman is open to all ages and all levels of riders but is the most difficult of the three challenges.  You must enter in at least one event out of the three offered in the Ultimate Horseman category and participate in at least of the two challenge dates in order to qualify your accumulated points for the saddle.  You may participate on more than one horse and more than one rider, but not more than two riders, may compete on the same horse but points will only be awarded on the same horse and rider combination.  One saddle will be awarded to the Highest Point Winner combining points from all Ultimate Challenge Events and all competition dates.

The Ultimate Challenge is made up of three separate events to include:

Trail – You are judged on the willingness of the horse to maneuver the obstacles, the riders humane horsemanship practices, and the manner in which the horse maneuvers (.i.e – does the horse seem to be rushing or is the horse and rider in complete control).   Your horse may attempt an obstacle three times without penalty but another horse that doesn’t refuse will be placed higher.  No points are lost in the trail event.  A rider may go around an obstacle they feel is too difficult and do so without penalty but no points will be awarded for that particular obstacle.     Those riders appearing, in the judge or ring steward’s opinion, to be using excessive force or intimidation towards the animal will be excused from the day’s activities and no monies will be refunded and point disqualification will apply.  TRAIL IS NOT TIMED BUT IS JUDGED.

Speed Trail - You are judged on the willingness of the horse to maneuver the obstacles, the riders humane horsemanship practices, and the manner in which the horse maneuvers, all while completing the course in a timely manner.   Refusal of an obstacle will result in five seconds added to your time.  More than three refusals will result in loss of time and the horse/rider combination will be disqualified.  No points are lost in the trail event.  A rider may go around an obstacle they feel is too difficult and do so with a five second penalty added to their time.     Those riders appearing, in the judge or ring steward’s opinion, to be using excessive force or intimidation towards the animal will be excused from the day’s activities and no monies will be refunded and point disqualification will apply.  SPEED TRAIL IS TIMED BUT NOT JUDGED.

Game of the Day -  Game of the Day will be announced at sign up time.  Game of the Day may include, but will not be limited to, Barrel Racing, Stake Race, Flag Race, Pole Bending, etc.   GAME OF THE DAY IS TIMED BUT NOT JUDGED.

All scores and decisions, by the judges and the challenge management are final.  Inhumane treatment, apparent intoxication, foul language, or any other behavior to be considered by the judges and/or management to be in poor taste, offensive, or inhumane will result in the rider or spectator being removed without further explanation or refund.  This is a family style event structured to encourage family participation and values as well as promoting awareness for the 4-H program and their values and well being.
